High Contrast, High Stakes

Black on white is not a default. It is a decision — and for low-vision readers it is the difference between a page and a fog.

The fashionable grays of modern interfaces (#666 on #f8f8f8, tasteful) quietly exclude millions. WCAG asks for 4.5 to 1. This theme runs far past it: true black, true white, edges like cut paper.

Subtlety is a luxury good. Some readers cannot afford it, and a public garden should not price them out.

Maximum ink. Zero apology.

Sister manifesto: typography-that-welcomes-everyone.
