Rebuilding a 1974 Snowmobile Carburetor
Mikuni VM34, frozen solid since 1989. This is the record so the next person does not learn it the hard way.
Parts
| Ref | Part | Qty | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| VM34/26 | Float bowl gasket | 1 | The one nobody stocks |
| VM34/07 | Pilot jet #35 | 1 | Do NOT drill it out |
| — | Carb cleaner | 2 cans | One is never enough |
Procedure
- Photograph everything before touching anything.
- Soak the body 24 h. The float pin drifts out with a 2 mm punch — from the cast side only.
- Pilot jet torque: finger-tight plus one eighth. Brass forgives nothing.
Warning
The throttle slide is matched to the body. Mix two carbs and both sleds die.
Result
Started on the third pull, idled at 1 800 rpm. The gasket from ref VM34/26 took three weeks to source — buy two and tape one inside the cowl for whoever comes after you.
