The Invitation
The idea
Give your words and photographs a place to take root and flourish in ten seconds, without the fences of mandatory signups or cloud lock-in. It’s the quietest place on the internet to plant a thought and watch it bloom.
The Natural Path: How Thoughts Grow
Everything is chosen with 500 years of typographic refinement by default, and understanding unfolds naturally alongside your writing needs:
- The Sprout (Minute 1 — Just Write): Paste or draft directly in the web writer at standard.garden. Then, you receive a beautifully typeset, shareable URL. It is an ephemeral seed (lasting 7 days) allowing you to share ideas freely without signup anxiety or cloud clutter.
- The Root (Day 1–7 — Claim & Animate): When an idea resonates and deserves permanence, adopt the note in one click with a passwordless Passkey or Email. The draft becomes permanent at
standard.garden/@yourname/note-titleand you can assign it any of the classical typographic temperaments. - The Atelier (Week 2 — Local Sovereignty): Once you write regularly, connect the official Obsidian Atelier plugin. Your notes remain 100% local on your disk (File-over-app). Publish or update notes directly from your Obsidian sidebar.
- The Sanctuary (Month 1+ — Living Ecosystem): Brand your garden with your own custom domain (
yourname.com), connect your thoughts through the subterranean Mycelium Network, and explore semantic resonances with Hyphe AI.
Core Foundations
1. Speed is Respect
Sharing ideas on the web has become exhausting: creating accounts, dealing with paywalls, configuring permissions, and waiting for heavy builds. Standard Garden enables effortless publication: paste, click, done. Ten seconds from thought to an enduring, beautifully typeset URL.
2. Beauty is Default
Five hundred years of typographic refinement—Gutenberg’s baseline grid, Aldus Manutius’s proportions, and Josef Müller-Brockmann’s Swiss modular harmony—are applied automatically. Your thoughts receive the layout dignity of a fine art publication or manual without any design tinkering required.
3. File over App
Your local Markdown files are sovereign. Everything you write stays safely on your machine in your own folders. If Standard Garden were to disappear, your entire vault remains 100% functional, accessible, and intact.
4. The Slow Web
We reject algorithms, vanity metrics, and attention-harvesting feeds. In their place, we offer quiet, enduring destinations: the daily communal blossom (/daily), the serendipitous walk (/random), and the interconnected underground Mycelium (/mycelium).
The Six Classical Temperaments
Every note automatically expresses itself through one of six classical design personalities:
- International: Rigid, mathematical, precise. Swiss modernist architecture.
- Documentation: Structured, precise, architectural. Engineering manuals and documentation.
- The Letter (Humanist): Warm, literary, organic. Cream paper and soft historical serifs.
- The Chronicle (Editorial): Authority, high contrast, journalism. Broadside newspapers and editorial drop caps.
- The Treatise (Academic): Scholarly, annotated, marginal. Sidenotes, citations, and mathematical formulas.
- The Exhibit (Gallery): Minimalist, spatial, museum-grade. Quiet typography that recedes to let photography shine.
